Chapter Eight

Faith woke the next morning in a bed with the softest sheets, a golden light falling through ornate windows, curled in the arms of a muscular male who adored her. Her pussy was aching slightly from the treatment she had received on Serkan’s medical fuck machine, a treatment that had left her hot and confused and, true to her essential nature, a little rebellious.

Squirming out of bed, she padded around Serkan’s place. She’d not had much of a chance to really investigate it the night before with the treatment draining the last of her energy reserves. It was beautiful. Every part of it had been designed with an artistic aesthetic native to the planet. Everything was beautifully crafted with reference to the natural world.

Feeling agitated and irritable for reasons she couldn’t quite understand, Faith wandered into what passed for a kitchen and looked around for something to eat. There was a lot of plantlike material, but nothing she recognized. No toaster strudel, no chips, nothing carbonated.

“Ugh.” She pushed the door closed. Serkan thought the machine was her punishment, but living on a planet where everyone wandered around thinking the right thing and nibbling on celery was a worse punishment than he could ever have imagined.

“This is hell,” she said, looking out over the beautiful city, windows in other buildings shining like dew in the light from the rising sun. She should have been awed by the beauty, but instead of being filled with appreciation, it was a dull aching horror that filled her.

Faith knew one thing more than she knew anything: she was not built for paradise.

“Good morning,” Serkan said, coming up behind her. “Are you hungry?”

She turned toward him, glad for the distraction.

“No,” she said. “I’m not hungry. There’s nothing to eat anyway.”

“There’s plenty to eat. Just not anything that comes in plastic packaging.”

“There’s nothing but lawn clippings in there. I’m not eating that stuff.”

“You seemed to like the food on the ship well enough.”

“That’s because it was weird and different and, I don’t know. I don’t like it now. It’s the opposite of an acquired taste.”

“You’re being difficult,” he observed. “Did you not sleep well?”

“I slept fine, I just woke up on the wrong planet,” she said, sliding into one of the uncomfortably elegant chairs.

“I see.” Serkan began preparing breakfast. He was shirtless, wearing loose black pants that fell from the muscular plane of his ass in a shroud about his legs. She knew what lay below those pants, one of the hottest bodies she’d ever made love to.

Faith sat in the chair and watched him with a scowl. Was there something wrong with her, that she wasn’t enjoying the experience of living in a perfect world? No. She was a prisoner. Just because the cage was gilded, it didn’t make her any less of a captive. And just because Serkan was making her breakfast, it didn’t make him any less her jailer.

Having figured that out, she felt a little better. The beauty and serenity of her surroundings had made her feel guilty for not liking them.
